2016 Best of Beauty - Makeup

After a short break I am back and have a lot of exciting content coming up for you. There's going to be a few changes which I will be talking about next week. But for today's post here's my 2016  Best of Beauty: Makeup, and on Thursday will be part two - skincare.

2016 was a great year, my Beautiful Nephew came into the world and has brought so much happiness to my family it's truly been amazing. I am finally on the right track and getting surgery for my hip hopefully soon.

BASE: First for base makeup there's been a select few that I have always gone back to or just continued to use. For primer, the Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot Primer has been great for smoothing everything out and increasing the longevity of my makeup. But the Becca Backlight Priming Filter is just perfect for giving a nice dewey base which peeks through foundation to give that glowy look, but it also helps blur out imperfections and my goodness I need that in spades.
I've jumped from a few different foundations like the Revlon ColorstayClinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation and the Hourglass Seamless Finish Stick Foundation, and I still really like them all, but the ones that really jump out are the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation and the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint, and of course the The Body Shop Lightening Drops are my must have to make sure my foundations match my skin tone - this has been a life saver, I can't even express how much I love this stuff and how it's saved my bacon on a daily basis, it also means I have more options for my bases.
As for concealer I have bounced around a few different ones but the one that really stood out and that I have used ever since I tried it is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. This has the coverage, longevity and texture I need but also is the perfect shade, finish and covers my dark circles perfectly. This stuff is magic and it's my favourite concealer EVER.
Finally for base is the L'Oreal Setting Spray now I've not tried loads out but this is by far my favourite out of ones I have tried. I've gone through goodness knows how many bottles of this stuff and I have to say it truly is a gem when it comes to making my makeup last longer but also settling down any powder or excess product. Definitely a great affordable setting spray.

CHEEKS: My favourite part of my makeup routine is the cheeks, and I have to say I have been kicking ass at contouring and highlighting and I have my products down. Let's start off with contouring, and something I discovered this year that has changed my contouring game is the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Medium, this is a super-pigmented, easy to apply and blend contouring powder which is the perfect tone for my pale skin and lasts all day. It really defines the cheekbones and I love to use the Real Techniques Setting Brush to apply this as it's small and ensures my contouring is super precise. I have quite a round chubby face so the fact this gives me cheekbones is incredible. But I still need a bit more colour in my complexion so I don't look like an extra from The Walking Dead, and so The Body Shop Honey Bronzer has been amazing at doing this. What I love most about this bronzer range is that it caters for lighter skin tones so although this looks very light, it actually works perfectly for my skin and gives me a beautiful bronzey look without looking orange or piling on the fake tan.
Finally for the finishing touches, my go to blush this year has been the Tarte Exposed Blush as it goes with any eye and lip combo and looks the most flattering on my cheeks. But Tarte extended their line and brought out the Exposed Highlighter which is again so flattering on my skin tone and is a very versatile highlight which suits a lot of skin tones. It's a beautiful texture, no chunky glitter, it just gives a stunning glow. I wear this most days and it doesn't look too much, but I can also wear it for a date or something and it still looks amazing. Definitely a keeper.

ZOEVA: I don't know how many times I have mentioned their palettes, but I just had to include them in my Best of Beauty because they really are incredible. Zoeva have some incredible Eye and Face palettes which I have been obsessed with. My most used is the Nude Spectrum Eyeshadow Palette which has a beautiful selection of warm and neutral shades to create hundreds of eye looks. They also have a Warm Spectrum and a Cool Spectrum Eye Palettes which I have played around with but they don't come close to how much I use and love the Nude one. Zoeva also brought out along with the Nude Spectrum Range Blush Palettes, and I have two which again I have been loving, first is the Nude Blush Palette and then towards the end of the year I picked up the Pink Spectrum Palette. These are in my everyday makeup bag along with the eyeshadow palettes because the quality and pigmentation are just mind blowing and they last all day long.
Some other new palettes they brought out were the Caramel Melange Eyeshadow Palette which is the most perfect palette for Autumn and Winter as it is full of lovely warm shades which create beautiful eye looks. I'm not brave enough to wear the reds just yet but I will certainly give them a try and see how I can wear them. Also with this palette they launched the Blanc Fusion which has some stunning mid tone browns which are great transition shades and I love to use them to build up a smokey or sultry eye so it all blends together. There's a beautiful bright yellow gold which is another one I've not figured out how I can wear it but it looks amazing. If you want to see swatches you can check these out on my Instagram.

TANYA BURR Eyeshadow Palettes: Another range I discovered and loved this year that I wanted to share with you is the Tanya Burr Eyeshadow Palettes. Now I had tried her cheek palettes which I thought were great and when she released a new collection I grabbed them and realised just how amazing they were and picked up the rest of the line too. I love how pigmented they are and the palettes are only £6 each which is crazy, these are better than a lot of other drugstore palettes I have tried and also better than some higher end ones as they last all day without creasing and they are such stunning shades I love each and every shadow. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the market for some new palettes. I really want Tanya Burr to bring out some brushes or something to go with the palettes as I think that would be amazing.

LIPS: Now onto lips and this year I really got into wearing lip products. I discovered my favourite lip balm ever, Carmex Lip Balm not very fancy but this stuff keeps my lips so soft and smooth but also is great to put on before a liquid lipstick or matte lipstick as it keeps everything feeling comfortable and hydrated.
I also got into lip glosses this year and some of my faves are the NYX Butter Glosses as they're super pigmented, affordable and look amazing on the lips. The Fleur De Force Lip Glosses are very similar but they're even more pigmented, they're very similar to a liquid lipstick but they're glossy and don't last quite as long. I really hope she extends her line as I am only keen on two of the shades in the collection and would really love to try out some new ones.
As for lipsticks, the Clinique Plum Pop Lipstick has been a firm favourite and has lived in my handbag and goes everywhere with me. It's such a beautiful easy colour to wear, it's comfortable on the lips and looks great either on it's own or with some extra gloss on top. Will definitely be branching out and getting some more shades in 2017 and maybe try some of their other products like the lip glosses, and the matte lipsticks.
Finally are Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipsticks, now these will be in my top 5 discoveries of 2016 post next week but I wanted to let you know that these are very recent discoveries but as soon as I tried them I instantly fell in love and have worn them so much since then.

Be sure to come back next week for more faves, discoveries and updates on what 2017 holds for IABT.
