Birchbox VS Glossybox: JULY 2016

Happy Friday Friends. It's almost the weekend and we're at the middle of July already. Anyway, I have this month's BIRCHBOX vs GLOSSYBOX for you and there's some really great products which I think you will like. So here it is...

Birchbox teamed up with Millie Mackintosh for this months colab and created the Never-Ending Summer Box. I love the design of the box, I mean look at how beautiful it is, and there's something exciting inside too, so let's start with that...

1. LOC x Millie Ultra-Gloss Lip Pencil in Bohemian Rose - £9
This is a Birchbox Exclusive, designed and named by Millie Mackintosh. This is a high-shine lip pencil which provides moisture and colour which they claim to last all day. The only product I have tried from this brand is an Eye Pencil so I will certainly be putting this to the test as the colour is just stunning and when swatching, it feels creamy and moisturising with really great colour pay-off.

2. JOHN FREIDA Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment - £9.99
A full size hair product is quite rare from Birchbox but I have been wanting to try this for a while and I'm glad that I've been able to. I've actually already used this so can give you my first impressions. You apply after shampoo and conditioner on wet hair from roots to tips ensuring all hair is covered. Leave for 3-5 minutes and rinse, blow-dry and style as usual. I was actually very surprised with the results, my hair was noticeably voluminous. It bounced and had more life than normal. I like to use the Fine To Full Blow Out Spray and I have also used the Volume Building Mousse and they've all worked really well for my fine hair. Definitely a go to range for me and I can't wait to try this in-shower treatment more.

3. NAILS INC. Nail Varnish in Upper Park Road - £15
I've never been a massive fan of the Nails Inc. nail polish formula, as they tend to chip and flake off within days (sometimes even hours) of application. This is a very pretty light pastel pink which is quite cool toned and great for an everyday nail colour. I've been loving the bare nail look with a sheer pink over it for a more manicured look but I have to say I really like this shade, shame about the formula.

4. CAUDALIE Micellar Cleansing Water - £15
Out of the few Caudalie products I've tried I've not managed to find any I like, but a Micellar Water is a pretty basic product nowadays and so this mini will be going into my travel bag for any makeup removing emergencies. This micellar water in particular has a nice light scent quite fruity but fresh, and I used it to remove the swatch of the lip colour and in one swipe it was practically gone, I just don't know how it will work with waterproof makeup as I only trust Garnier to get that done but I shall give it a try.

5. ELEMIS Hydra-Boost Day Cream - £39
I've tried Elemis skincare products before and they always seem to work pretty well with my skin. What's great about this product is that it's for super dry skin so it's packed with Hyaluronic Acid to lock-in that moisture and even if you don't have uber-dry skin all over your face and just have it in certain patches, a cream like this is great to keep in your arsenal for those emergencies.

This months Glossybox is all about being Summer ready and getting the best (and safest) sun-kissed glow. So with this edit, I know what I will be doing this evening - brushing my hair, applying my night cream/gradual tanner and waking up bronze and glowing in the morning. Here's what was in this months box...

1. UTAN & TONE Nourishing Night Cream - £12.50
This was included in a sneak peak from last months box. I've never heard of the brand before but this is basically a night cream which offers Hyaluronic Acid and vitamins full of anti-oxidants to help repair and nourish skin, but it also offers a nice golden glow. Yep, that's right it's a gradual tanner with all the benefits of a nourishing night cream. There is no odour and no staining of your pillows so it's a quick fix for us fair skin gals and I can't wait to give this a try.

2. HAWAIIAN TROPIC Island Berry Lip Gloss SPF 25 - £6.99
I'm not one for lip glosses in squeezy tubes but when they offer a decent factor of sun protection it's something I learn to live with. I like that this. It smells amazing, it feels really nice on the lips - not sticky or slippery but comfortable to wear and it has the teency weency bit of tint to it so it makes my lips look nice and juicy. Plus, that sun protection is a big thing for me and it says it has 12 hour moisturisation which I can't really comment on as I've not work it for that long but once I got over my first thoughts when just looking at it, I actually really like it although not something I would normally pick out.

3. ICONA MILANO Emoticon Allowed Mascara - £13.04
I've never heard of this brand before so I was very intrigued, and after reading up about it this is a water, sweat and humidity resistant mascara meaning no smudges whether at the beach or sat in your office day dreaming about being outside in the sun. I am looking forward to giving this a try as it says it really amps up your lashes and gives a false lash effect so I will definitely be reporting back on this.

4. HAIRON De-tangle Brush - £6.99
De-tangling brushes have been very popular over the last few years, and I've received a couple already in my subscription services. This is a compact mint green egg shape, and what's great about these brushes is they de-tangle hair without pulling but most importantly without any break-age or excessive damage to the hair. I will be popping this in my travel bag too for my next weekend getaway.

5. BLANK CANVAS COSMETICS F20 Brush - £11.95
Blank Canvas Cosmetics is a brand I've not had too many dealings with, but I have tried a couple of their makeup palettes although I am aware that they are more well-known for their makeup brushes. So I was shocked to see that they had thrown this in the box. This is a similar shape to the Sigma F80 Brush but I find this one isn't as dense and it's much softer. I think I will enjoy using this for foundation so I will keep you updated on how I like it.

I believe it's another tie here with the subscription boxes. Whilst Birchbox has the LOC x Millie Mackintosh Lip Crayon and the John Freida Luxurious Volume Treatment, Glossybox have the Blank Canvas Cosmetics Brush and the Hawaiian Tropic Lip Gloss. So it's another fair game this week, anything could happen for August, and Glossybox has allowed it's subscribers to choose which MUA Eyeshadow Palette they receive in their August box so be sure to go onto your account and pick yours.
