SUMMER EDIT WEEK - Summer Holiday Essentials

It's still the complete opposite of Summer in the UK, but to mark the official start of Summer which was on Tuesday, I wanted to share with you my essentials for a Summer holiday, or Summer in general.

SELF TAN: Starting off with skin, to ensure that I don't blind people with my pasty white legs when on the beach or by the pool, I first like to make sure that I have a good tan. Obviously I normally do all of this before I go but I would take them if I was going on a two week vacation just in case. The Body Shop Pinita Colada Exfoliating Cream Body Scrub smells delish and like a summer holiday in a pot, but it's great at smoothing the skin and create the perfect base for my self tanner of choice.
The Vita Liberata Luxury Tan Rapid Fast Acting Tan Mousse is my new favourite self tan as it provides such a beautiful, streak-free natural tan and it takes only a couple of hours to apply before I rinse it off.

SPF: Fair skin and the hot summer sun is not a good combination, so slathering on the sunscreen is my number one priority. For the body, I received the Hawaiin Tropic Satin Protection Ultra Radiance SPF 30 Sun Lotion in a subscription box recently and I have been absolutely loving it. It's the perfect texture and it makes my skin look so glowy and radiant I love how my SPF can do that.
For my face, The Body Shop Skin Defence SPF 50  is my go to. It has a high factor because I have such fair skin and I already have freckles and scars and I was terrible with wearing sunscreen when I was younger so I get a high SPF to make sure my skin is completely protected. This one is so lightweight and absorbs into the skin instantly. Plus, you can use it as a base for makeup as it really smooths and hydrates the skin.

MOISTURISER: Because I use such high SPF on my face, the likely hood of me getting a tan is pretty low - and I don't like to apply fake tan as I just don't see the point considering I use chemical exfoliators etc. So anyway, I like to mix an instant but wash off tanning product into my moisturiser to give me that sunkissed glow and match my face to the rest of my body. That's where the The Body Shop Honey Bronze Drops of Sun come in. I like to mix them in with the Polaar Ice Source Moisturising Gel because the moisturiser is lightweight and sinks into the skin almost immediately but it still gives me the hydration my skin needs. Plus it's another great product to use as a base for makeup. With a drop or two of the Drops of Sun, you get a really natural shade if mixed with a moisturiser but it's also great to mix into your foundation or BB Cream to customise the shade to match with your summer tan.
In some cases where I've forgotten to re-apply my SPF through the day, or I've got sun burnt, or I've been out in the sun too long and my skin feels super dry, the Vaseline Cocoa Radiant Body Lotion is the best product to use in my opinion. Cocoa Butter is a great ingredient to use when skin has been damaged by the Sun (Check out Sunday's post for more info on Sun Protection) and this is ultra hydrating and smells incredible. They do have a light weight spray version of this along with an Aloe formula which is also a great ingredient for sun burn.

MAKEUP: I don't know about you, but when it's boiling hot and you're at the beach or by the pool, wearing a full face of makeup is not ideal and certainly isn't something that I would bother about. But there are those occasions where makeup is needed to cover up the multitude of sins that I just don't care about on holiday (dark circles, freckles etc.). So I thought I would share with you a few key things that I take with me where such a time arises. First is coverage, and I don't want something too heavy or too glowy if it's 30+ degrees, so the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint is the perfect base as it's lightweight, it's matte and it's easy to apply with fingers, brush or Beauty Blender. For base and eyes, the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette has everything I could possibly need. A bronzer which can be used to contour as well if needed, two blushes, always have to have choice, a highlight, and 3 eyeshadows. A simple yet pretty look that takes no time at all and will compliment my tan and great for any occassion. But wait, a lip colour is great to have, but screw wearing lipstick in a hot climate, I would be worried the lipstick would just melt off my lips. I love the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors in 07 & 08, two shades, for two completely different looks. A MLBB shade, ad a pinky raspberry tone too. Great for daytime or evenings and they're so easy to apply with no worrying about it smearing all over your face.

NAILS: As for the nails, well I saw these 3 shades of the new range from Barry M and I just knew they would have to come along with me. The Coconut Infused Nail Polishes in Flamingo, Aloha & Surfboard just scream summer and frankly I would wear them all year round if I could. They're bright, they're colourful, and so they're perfect for the Summer.

EXTRAS: Now for the extra stuff, the bits that I normally forget to be honest but for a road trip or plane journey, these are great to have along with you. I don't leave the house without a pair of sunglasses on. I have super sensitive eyes so sunglasses are permanently on my head. I don't spend money on expensive ones like Ray Bans or Dior because I will most likely scratch them or sit on them or lose them completely, so a pair of affordable sunglasses are all I need.
A cross body bag is the best way to keep all your important stuff together. Plane tickets, boarding pass, hotel key, phone, SPF, Magazine. This one from Pia is such a stunning shade of blue and it's just the perfect size which means I won't go overfilling it and end up with a bad shoulder. If I need anything else like a bottle of water or something then I can just carry it. For when you're on your holiday, a small bag to carry around your essentials is great and one that you can transition from day to night is always a  plus so no need for more than one bag to be packed.
I'm not one to sit there and do nothing on a plane or if I'm a passenger in a car, so a good book that I can really sink my teeth into is great and I love Sali Hughes Pretty Honest. It's a beauty book, of course, but it's got more jazz to it than just tips on how to apply makeup or the difference between dry and dehydrated skin. It's a good read, and I highly recommend it.
