Maybelline FIT ME Matte + Poreless Foundation

Good drugstore foundations are hard to come by, but when they do, they are worth sharing. So in true blogger form I write a review on it. Obviously.

So the Maybelline FIT ME Matte + Poreless is the newest foundation from the range and it's added to the existing FIT ME products, the Luminous Foundation, the Concealer and the Powder

THE GOOD: Let's start off with what I love about this foundation. It's a natural/matte foundation, although it's not too matte and definitely not cakey or dry looking which is always a plus. It smooths over the skin beautifully and diminishes the signs of pores in a flash. I like to apply with a brush like the Expert Face Brush from Real Techniques and finish it off with the Beauty Blender which is how I like to apply all my foundations. It's great for normal to oily skin, dry skin types would benefit from the Dewey + Luminous FIT ME Foundation. The Matte + Poreless has a medium to full coverage, and if you have acne or any textural issues, the blurring micro powders refines pores and imperfections to give a seamless and perfected finish.
This may look slightly different from other beauty bloggers reviews you may have seen because this is the UK packaging, a squeezy tube, not a square glass bottle like the Luminous formula. I prefer the squeezy tube packaging as it makes it easier to travel with and it's not such a mess like pouring out of a glass bottle. The best thing about this, it won't break the bank as it's the lower end of the drugstore prices at only £5.99.

THE BAD: So unfortunately, my experience with drugstore foundations, specifically Maybelline is that their shade range is pretty pants, and this one is no different, there are only 6 shades in the range and I have the lightest shade which is still about 6 shades too dark for me. So medium skin tones will be okay but fair, light and dark will have trouble finding a match. I have to use the The Body Shop Lightening Drops which I have become very reliant on since they were released.
As for how the foundation lasts, it's matte finish increases the longevity but unfortunately the pore smoothing abilities doesn't last all day, with the right primer, application and setting spray it can last a decent amount of time, 5 hours maybe, but anything more than that it starts to break down and sit on top of the skin. I do find I have to really make sure I remove all of my makeup at the end of the day and go in with a facial scrub to ensure all signs of the foundation are gone. With it's pore smoothing properties, it has a tendency to sit in pores and this could cause clogging and breakouts, not something anyone wants, so as long as I remove it adequately then it's all good.

Overall, I think it's a great drugstore option for troubled skin - acne, uneven texture, scars, and when applied and set right, it can last a decent time. There are a few others that I would recommend but I think I will leave that for the next FACE OFF
