Spring Edit: Makeup

Today's post is all about what products I am switching around and including in my everyday makeup stash. As Sunday's post is going to be on drugstore makeup I thought I would include some higher end makeup as well as a few drugstore bits today too.

In spring, I am all about cream blushes, dewey skin and no fuss eye looks. Here's some of the products I will be using.

The Radiant Skin:
I love dewey skin all year round but spring is the perfect time of year where your skin is still quite dry and maybe slightly dull from winter but not yet has that summer bronzey glow, so grab your favourite dewey foundation and get your glow on.

So this isn't really going to be a massive surprise, but the NARS Sheer Glow or Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk are the two main culprits when it comes to dewey, flawless skin. But mixing both together is even better as you get awesome coverage and a beautiful glow. If you don't have a dewey foundation, don't panic, because if you have a liquid or cream highlighter or primer in your makeup stash, mix that in with your favourite foundation and you've got a subtle yet dewey base that makes your skin look flawless and glowing. Easy as that. There are some great drugstore foundations too like the Rimmel Match Perfection Nude as well as Bourjois Happy Light, L'Oreal True Match and many more. The shade ranges aren't as extensive as NARS but they're better than nothing.

Blushing cheeks:
Cheek stains and cream blushes scream spring time to me, and I'm also a fan of cream or liquid highlighters as they just add a beautiful sheen to the skin and both blush and highlight together really helps create a fresh and healthy looking base. Here's some of my faves...

Maxfactor Creamy Touch Blush is a staple in my makeup bag in the countdown to summer. The No7 Cheek Pop & Glow Cream Blushes are lovely formulas and come in stick form so are so easy to apply. I like to blend them out using my fingertips or a small stippling brush. They also have the Radiant Highlighter in the line too which is a beautiful champagne shade, if that's too light for you, althought I haven't tried it myself they also have a more bronzey one too each might be better suited for more light to medium skin tones. Finally is the MeMeMe Highlighter which is pretty much identical to Benefit High Beam and is the perfect pearly pink highlight. There's also the Cherubs Cheek Stain which although it looks like fake blood, it is actually a really natural, pretty blush shade.

The Maxfactor Creme Puff Blushes are another great product. These are very similar to the rather pricey Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes, as they are very pigmented, yet give a really nice glow as well as a flush of colour. Highly recommend these and you should expect to see a face off between Maxfactor and Hourglass.

No fuss eyes:
When it gets to those warmer months where sun is out longer, there's beautiful flowers blooming and gardens are all colourful again, spending ages on your makeup everyday isn't taking advantage of the warmer weather. So here's some of my no fuss, one swipe and we're done shadows that will have you hopping out the door in no time.

Whether you want a quick light shimmery shade on your eyelids or want some colour added into your look, cream shadows are, in my opinion your best friend. The NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils are easy, affordable and come in lots of different shades. You can also use two shades, lighter one for the inner half and darker for the outer corner. If you prefer more cream base kind of products, the Maybelline Color Tattoos or the Maxfactor Excess Shimmer Shadows are two of my favourite products and they're from the drugstore. The Color Tattoos have so many different shades and look incredible on there own or as a base. They last all day, crease free and are about £4.99 I think. The Maxfactor Shadows don't have quite as many shade choices but they're great formulas and they set on your lids and last for hours. Can you tell I like the taupe-y, bronze kind of shades? What's worse is I have more of them.

Kissable lips:
After winter, my lips are always really dry and chapped so I make it a ritual that I use a lip scrub and nourishing lip balm everyday so they're nice and soft. (No matter how much I scrub my lips in the winter, they're still always dry and chapped - another reason why I hate the cold).

It's time to make some space and put away those dark vampy lips and make room for the pinks and corals. The Maybelline Color Elixirs are a great option for a low maintenance lip colour that looks pretty and there's a decent range of shades and they're all so beautiful. The Revlon Colour Balms are another great product and there's even matte formulas as well as the lacquer balms. Last spring I was in love with the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector and this year is going to be no different. Although they do have some new lip balm type formulas so really keen to give those a try.

Tomorrow's Spring Edit post will be a peek into my wardrobe, the process I go through every season to update my wardrobe and how I organise it.

    1. You definitely should, it's stunning, although the palest shade doesn't quite match me so I have to mix it with someshing else.
