A Beauty Chat: The Makeup Bag #10: The Autumn Edition

Rather than doing the standard Seasonal Edit all in one post, I thought I would incorporate the makeup side of it into the very popular The Makeup Bag series, so here's The Autumn Edition.

After the summer glow has gone, and the tan starts to fade, there's one thing that is needed. Illuminator. This will save the day on so many occasions. Be it general, daily wear, or a special event. The cooler months can mean dryer skin for some makeup wearers so radiance is one thing that can counteract that dry look and give you a fresh glow. I tend to keep the skin pretty simple and neutral as the eyes and lips are normally the main focus points. With darker, berry lips and maybe a smokey eye, the skin looks best (in my opinion) flawless and simple. With a neutral blush or just using a bronzer, and then some highlight on those cheekbones.

The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is perfect to get that flawless, radiant complexion started, I normally apply this with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush which helps to give a seamless base. Then I use the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer to brighten the under eye areas and cover any blemishes. At this point, I like to add the Kryolan for Glossybox Highlighter Cashmere onto my cheekbones. This is a cream highlighter which is very subtle but it does provide the skin with a beautiful sheen. I like to use this as a bit of a base and I will apply powder highlight over it later.
So the base is done.
Onto cheeks and starting with the NYX Blush in Taupe this is perfect to really add definition to the face. I don't like a harsh contour so in are sure to blend out the edges with my foundation brush. To add a flush to the skin, nothing too dramatic but just to add some colour into the cheeks, the Natural Collection Blush in Pink Cloud is a soft, neutral blush so it doesn't take any of the attention away from the rest of the look. Then, for my powder highlight, I just love the Seventeen Shimmer Brick, the glow it gives to your skin is just stunning. I cannot get enough of this highlighter. I will be using it for the eyes later too.

Smokey eyes. What is the most popular and generally flattering, autumnal eye look? If you said bronze and brown then that's exactly what I was thinking. Coppers and rusty shades are also seen to be very autumnal and some great looks can be made. Here's how I do it.

I start by using a mid tone brown as my transition shade into the crease so ?? from the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette, then I go in with the Rimmel Mono Eyeshadow in Smokey Quartz all over the lid, then it's time to blend and smoke it out. So using the darker brown shade from the UD Palette I start to build this shade up. Start off light, take your time, and build up as desired. You can make this as smokey or as light as you want. You can also use black ?? or Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeliner in Bronze on the lash line to smoke it out. Don't forget to balance out the eye by smudging some of the Bronze Eyeliner with the (light shade from UD palette) along the bottom lashline. Add a few hundred coats of mascara (okay slight exaggeration) onto the lashes. I prefer big, voluminous lashes so build it up until you're happy with it. Don't forget the bottom lashes too. To finish the eyes, using the Seventeen Shimmer Brick, apply into the inner corners and brow bone to brighten it up.

Don't forget those brows. Brows are important to a look, shoddy brows just let's you down. Even if it's as simple as running the Revlon Brow Fantasy Tinted Gel through your brows. See, wasn't that difficult.

The other focus point in an autumn makeup look? Lips. Nudes are perfect to wear all year round and especially with a smokey eye, but for the sake of this post, darker reds and berry shades are the most popular at this time of year. I'm excited to see what new launches Autumn 2014 has in store for us.

I've given you three options. A berry lip, a nude lip, and a red lip.

Berry: Maybelline Color Elixir in Raspberry Rhapsody - I love this lip colour for fall, this can be worn quite sheer and light or built up. The formula of these is amazing, no sticky feeling when you're wearing them and the pigmentation is amazing.
Nude: Soap & Glory Lipstick in Blush Pink - is my perfect nude shade. Not too pink, not too brown, not too nude. It's just perfect. This looks stunning with a super dramatic smokey eye.
Red: Revlon Matte Balm in Striking - here's another brand who brings it with their lip products. These balms are pigmented, they're creamy, don't dry out your lips, and they're matte (obvs). Who doesn't love a nice red matte lip? I do.

That's it for today, but be sure to swing back on Friday to see my Top 10 Under £10 Autumn Essentials.
