A Beauty Chat: 2. Summer Ready Edit

My very first post on my blog was an Autumn edit, which I totally loved and was really pleased with. Plus, I have tried to do one for every new season (I can't remember if I have done or not) so I thought it was time for a summer edition. If you're not familiar with these, basically I go through my beauty stash and pick out a few things that are my essentials for the summer.

Primers are the easiest way to keep your makeup waterproof and sweat-proof in the summer, but you may also want a nice glow to the skin. The Simple Illuminating Cream is perfect for adding an instant glow to the skin and has SPF 15. The L'Oreal Lumi Magique and the Bourjois Happy Light Luminous Serum Primers are also good at giving a fresh glow to the skin without being too shimmery. You can then apply a primer over too which will help with longevity. Something like the Benefit Porefessional Pro Balm or the Maxfactor Face Finity Primer ?? are both really good options to keep your makeup in place.

I am the kind of person that likes to have something on my skin to even it out as I just feel more comfortable that way. A tinted moisturiser or BB cream is ideal as it's super lightweight and evens out your skin tone. I haven't found a BB cream or tinted moisturiser which matches my really pale skin and is the right amount of coverage. So I like to use a lightweight foundation. Something like the NARS Sheer Glow which is my new favourite. There's also things like the L'Oreal True Match and Rimmel Match Perfection foundations which are on the more affordable side. If you are looking for something with a bit more lasting power, if you're going to be out all day then something like the Revlon Colourstay Whipped or Liquid is the best option as it just stays put and doesn't fade, infact, the longer you wear this for the better it looks. Crazy right? Set with a bit of powder (optional) and it won't move at all.

It's summer, which means bronzers are being released and advertised left, right and centre. It's a summer essential and who doesn't love a sun kissed glow to the skin? My everyday bronzer is the Honey Bronzer from The Body Shop as it has a brilliant pale shade to match my pale skin and it's also matte so perfect for contouring or for a natural bronzey look. A bronzer with a tad more shimmer in, perfect to give a sun kissed glow is the Soap & Glory Solar Powder. This has a lighter shade and a darker shade. At first I thought it was a bit too orange for my skin but when mixed together it gives a really nice colour (even though it's a bit too dark for my skin) it has a little bit of shimmer in, nothing to be alarmed about. I love Soap & Glory products and this doesn't disappoint.

This category is pretty easy really. Long wearing crease proof cream eyeshadows are perfect and stay on for ages. The Maybelline Colour Tattoos are the most popular and easy to get your hands on. There's also cream eyeshadow sticks from the likes of Maxfactor and NYX. These can be used as either a base to below other eyeshadows, or on it's on for a quick and easy, yet really nice look. Waterproof eyeliners are a must have and the only ones I have tried and use are the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliners. These stay in place, don't wear away and as the name suggests, waterproof. They come in some really pretty shades and my favourite is the Bronze one which I use most days. If you prefer to do a cat eye type look, the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner which I have been reaching for a fair bit when it comes to getting that perfect wing. Plus, as the name suggests, it's lasting power is incredible and it's a really black shade.
A waterproof mascara is a must, and although I wear them all year round, if you don't, summer is the time for anything waterproof. I have been really liking the Maybelline Go Extreme Mascara, which gives good volume and separates the lashes too. I'm also a fan of The Rocket mascara from them too which I definitely recommend to anyone who likes volume and length and separation. Both of these stay put. They don't smudge or flake off and they take some time getting all of it off but it's totally worth it.

Summer calls for bright pink and coral lips, whether it's a bold lip or a sheer look you like, there's some brilliant products around. The Maybelline ColourSensational Lipsticks are a brilliant drugstore offering and they don't dry your lips out at all. If you want to make a statement, these are perfect. Of course the Revlon Matte Balms and the Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains are always a good option for when a long lasting lip colour is needed.
If you prefer something toned down, then I highly recommend the Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks or their Super Colour-Fabu Lipsticks are definitely worth checking out. I have been loving the matte formula in the shade Pom Pom ?? recently and I just love the non drying formula.

If you haven't already seen my Favourite Pink Polishes from my Monday Mani #4 ?? Post then go check it out. But some of the other shades I have been loving are, of course, the Barry M Nail Paints especially the shades ??, ??, ??, ??. I've also been loving this China Glaze Polish which is a pretty Coral colour. Maybelline In ?? Is a unique shades, it's a pale blue! but is quite bright. I have so many polishes that I love for the summer and believe me there are many more but these are my most worn and loved polishes currently.

Self Tanning:

Not something I do very often. As I've already mentioned, my skin is very pale, so whenever self tanner goes anywhere near me it looks orange and patchy and streaky and just not natural or attractive at all. Saying that,  I do have a few which are the best ones I have found which is the Dove Summer Glow and the Tarte Brilliance Skin Rejuvenating Maracuja Face & Body Self Tanner. I don't use this on my face as I have a separate one for that, but with a tanning mitt and a light hand, this can give a really nice tan without too much of a streaky, orange mess. For the self tanner I use on my face, the Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch Self Tanner is the only one I have tried and the only one I will ever try. This stuff does what it says. It gives a really nice, smooth finish, doesn't look patchy or orange or unnatural and is so easy to apply even I can do it. I don't use this too often as I don't tan my body much so it makes my face darker than the rest of my skin but I do like to use this if I can't be bothered to apply makeup and just want a bit of colour.

SPF is so important all year round, not just Summer. For the face and your body and whether you go for a moisturiser with SPF or a separate SPF, it's vital in keeping your skin from getting sun damage. A good one I have been trying out recently for the face is the Soap & Glory Make Yourself Youthful Sunshield Superfield SPF 50 which thankfully hasn't broke me out (a problem I have had before), and I really like it so far, it sinks in so quickly and feels like nothing is there. For the body, I am quite forgetful (read as lazy) when it comes to applying SPF and although I know it's important, I always think I will be okay without it, and I never am - when will I learn? Anyway, my best friend introduced me to the Nivea Protect & Refresh which comes out an invisible mist, you just spray it on, rub it in a little and you're good to go. Easy as that. I have quite sensitive skin on my legs and I have found some sun screens like Soltan irritate my legs and arms but this one doesn't at all. Plus it's really refreshing to apply if it's very hot - hence the name.

I hope you liked my summer edit. Feel free to leave requests or recommendations in the comments or on my social media. Thanks for reading.
