A Feature: Spring Makeup

After my spring nails post I looked at the makeup products I have been using and I've been wearing this look in particular which is suitable for spring and the transition from dark rich colours, to bright or pastel shades.

First up and most importantly is primer. I'm going for a very fresh and glowy complexion to hide any signs of dull grey skin left behind from the winter. So I go in with the Benefit Porefessional around the centre of my face concentrating on any problem areas, and then with the Bourjois Luminous Serum Primer I apply on the rest of my face. I've recently started testing the Bourjois primer out and it doesn't have any shimmer in it which I am really loving about it. It has such a light texture as well that it doesn't feel heavy on the skin or make it look obvious you have a tonne of products on your face. So bravo Bourjois. Bravo. Anywho, once the primer has sunk into the skin I then go in with a yellow concealer. I do this before I apply foundation as I have found that it covers any redness on my skin perfectly so when foundation is applied, I don't need as much. I got this concealer palette online for really cheap and I know a lot of other brands have the different coloured concealers (post will be up later this week about covering redness). Then it's foundation time and... drum roll please... The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is back. I have been using this a lot recently, as I kind of pushed it to the back of my muji storage to try other things but I have gone back to it which shows how much I love this stuff. It gives a pretty good coverage and the lasting power of this puts the Yves Saint Laurent Youth Liberator Serum Foundation to shame (and breathe).
Concealers next and are so important to lift, sculpt and highlight your face. I have been trying out the L'Oreal Lumi Magique highlighter pen in Light 1. This isn't as peachy toned as my trusted Touché Éclat but this still helps to brighten the eye area which I think is a must for a spring, fresh faced look. The yellow concealer and the foundation would have covered most of the redness (unless you're one of the lucky ones who doesn't need to wear lots of makeup and has perfectly smooth, blemish free, dark circle free, redness free faces, if so... I hate you! - I kid... Maybe). But there's possibly still some imperfection of some kind - or in my case many - so I go in with Seventeen Stay Time Concealer in Extra Fair, which I have been using instead of the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and it's actually very similar. Good coverage, fantastic price and it is the perfect shade for my pale skin. Score.
The blush of choice for this spring look is the Topshop Cream Blush in Afternoon Tea, which I've just purchased and am loving it as it's such a bright pink and the application and blending of this is top notch. For highlighter I have also picked up the Topshop Highlighter in Polish which is such a stunning cream highlighter which is so easy to apply and when it catches the light it just looks incredible. A light dusting of Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light and it's onto the eyes.

This Spring, there is a huge bronze-y, gold eye trend and although gold isn't my cup of tea, I am all about the bronze eyeshadow. Starting with the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On & On Bronze as a base I then go in with the Rimmel Mono Eyeshadow in Smokey Quartz all over the lid and then using Urban Decay's ?? As an inner corner highlight, and ?? from the same palette I apply to the upper and lower lash line, by closing my eye around the brush and applying it as if I was lining my upper waterline. I love the look it gives to my eyes and it helps to deepen up the look slightly without anything too dramatic. Making sure there is a decent amount of shadow smudged in to the lash line as well, I go in with a brown eyeliner to fill in any gaps I've missed - I prefer brown as it's not as harsh as black - a quick squeeze on the old eyelash curlers and a couple coats of a new favourite mascara Maxfactor Extreme Volume and it's time for lips.

I didn't want anything too bright to take the attention away from my cheeks and eyes too much, so I decided to go with the L'Oreal L'Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick in Rose Melody which is a beautiful pink shade that compliments the look and is a perfect nude shade for me.
