A Beauty Essential - An Introduction To: Drugstore Makeup Starter Kit

When I first started wearing makeup, it was such a minefield but as time went on, it got easier but not knowing a huge amount about it, having someone there to recommend things and guiding me would have saved a lot of embarrassing looks that I sported. So here's my guide to a makeup starter kit, that can be found at the drugstore.

Face: Starting with primer, the Bourjois Luminous Serum Primer is a brilliant option to smooth skin and keep your makeup on all day. Buying a highlighter isn't a necessity, but having a primer highlighter hybrid is a good option. The Seventeen Skin WOW 3 Way Highlighter is something I use a lot, I love it, and it's definitely one great product that does two things very well. Now for foundation, I have two options for you, Revlon Colorstay which is a full coverage foundation, and for a lighter coverage, the Revlon Nearly Naked is a perfect option, just make sure that the shade matches your skin tone and that you blend down your neck - we've all done it, but a line around your face where you haven't blended it is just not a good look, I'm saving you from those cringe worthy photos that come out when the new boyfriend meets your parents, or on your 18th birthday. Moving on to concealer, and the Seventeen Phwoar Paint is a perfect heavy duty under eye concealer for those stubborn dark circles, it's also good on blemishes. The L'Oreal Lumi Magique is a great option for brightening and highlighting your face. Onto powder for those of you who get a little shiny through the day, the Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot is a translucent powder which is perfect for touching up your makeup through the day and getting rid of any shine. Onto Bronzer now and the only one I really like from the drugstore is the Bourjois Chocolate Bronzing Powder which even on my fair skin doesn't look orange or dirty. Finally for the complexion is blusher, and the Bourjois Cream Blush in 03 is my favourite blusher from the drugstore and is so easy to blend.

Eyes: For eyeshadow I have two options, the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On & On Bronze a cream eyeshadow which can be used as a base or an all over lid colour on its own. A powder eyeshadow is the Rimmel Mono Eyeshadow in Smokey Quartz, which is a brilliant shadow and is so easy to apply and blend. By far the best drugstore eyeliners are the Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeliners, from nude to black to brighter colours. Maybelline have some brilliant mascaras, my favourite being The Rocket Waterproof Mascara. For eyebrows I don't have any drugstore products, but there are eye shadows that can double as brow powders, or there are some good pencils available too.

Lips & Tools: For lipgloss, the Maybelline Coloursensational Lip Gloss are non-sticky, brilliant shade range and are just an all round good lip gloss. I had to include the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms as they are just an amazing drugstore lip product, suitable for every day wear and so long lasting they are perfect for a night out too. Finally the Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipsticks are amazing, they're so pigmented and moisturising, and they have a Vivids collection as well as Nudes and Superstay. Amazing lipsticks and perfect for any makeup wearing newbie. As for tools, eyelash curlers are perfect for making those eyes look more open, and give your lashes a beautiful curl.

Makeup brushes aren't a necessity but if you want to give them a go or prefer to use them rather than your fingers or sponges or whatever then the Real Techniques Brushes by Samantha Chapman are an amazing quality at an affordable price. Eco Tools are also a brilliant option for makeup brushes.

Are you just starting to wear makeup and not sure what products to try? Do you have any recommendations available at the drugstore?
