A Review: The Face Base Crew

16:37

So recently I have been trying out a few new (to me) products which I have not stopped seeing or hearing about in the beauty blogging/YouTube world so I thought I would pick them up and give them a try. Rather than just doing separate reviews I thought I would combine them all together and cover all bases I have been testing out.

1. First up is the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in Shade 3. I have been reading Anna's a.k.a. Vivianna Does Makeup blog everyday religiously and she is the reason I actually purchased this foundation. I got mine from Selfridges online (the discount code I found for it has now expired.) But I am so glad I picked this foundation up. I love the finish it gives and how easy it is to blend, I love that it has a pump and the shade I picked was perfect - which was a guess as I purchased this online - I guess you could just call it luck, but there are 15 shades to choose from. I use this as an everyday foundation, as it is oil free and hydrating and doesn't move around my face or wear away throughout the day. Although it is a very natural and light/medium coverage it can be accustomed to your satisfaction and be built up.

2. The next one I have been trying out is the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Soft Ivory. This is the lightest shade they have and although slightly too yellow for me, once blended in it looks okay. When I first used this I had a total hissy fit because no matter what I tried it looked horrible and cakey and didn't blend in very well. So I had a look at some YouTube videos and some reviews with how to apply it or what works best, and I then found the answer. Less is definitely more with this foundation. I apply a tiny bit on the back of my hand and dot it onto my face and using the Real Techniques Buffing Brush I then spend a good few minutes buffing it into the skin and building up the coverage as required. It is a thicker consistency to the foundations I am used to so I don't know if that is why I found it so difficult to work with initially. Once I had got this down I loved it. It is a very good medium if not full coverage and although you have to spend quite a bit of time blending it in, once done it looks absolutely beautiful and I think it's just brilliant. Only thing I don't like is the price tag but that's the same with all 3 of these bases, but they are definitely worth every penny.

3. Finally is the newest addition to my face base collection and that is the Yves Saint Laurent Youth Liberator Foundation in B10. This is the lightest shade available but it is a very good match for my skin tone. I like how they have a yellow toned option and a pink toned option for each shade which is a very logical answer to a lot of issues that occur when matching your skin with a foundation. Anyway, I picked this up from Boots because they didn't have my shade on Feel Unique (where it was on sale) but I am glad I got it. I actually used my points on my Boots card which shows how much I shop there, so it was like a little treat as I was pretty poorly at the time I got it, so wanted to get something new to cheer me up. When I saw people were saying it gave you a "lit from within" look, I actually had a little chuckle to myself and thought "wow what a load of BS, a foundation can't really do that." But actually I see what they meant. It really does give a natural and healthy glow to the skin which I am all for, but best of all it really brightens your complexion when all you want to do is curl up in a ball in the dark and sleep for a week. Unlike the GA offering, and with it's a serum texture it gives a medium coverage without looking cakey if built up to a fuller finish - I like to use this with either a buffing brush or a flat top kabuki like the Sigma F80 as it gives a full and flawless coverage and is so easy to blend. The bottle is very chic and grown up (if that's possible) and it's handy that it comes with a pump. Although this has anti-aging properties in it and is well known for how it diminishes signs of wrinkles and fine lines, what makes this really stand out is the fact that it gives a youthful glow therefore is suitable for anyone who is looking to add that extra radiance to their complexion. Pure geniuses at YSL and I will definitely be trying out some more products from them.

So there is my three new face bases that I have been trying out and loving. I know what you're thinking "who needs 3 high end foundations at the same time", I just can't help myself and I have been wanting to try them for a while. I hope you liked this post and let me know if you would like to see more reviews comparing the products together.

Have you tried any of these bases? What do you think to this kind of review?
