A Beauty Essential: Hair Care Top Picks #6 - Part 1

Since chopping a good 2 inches off my hair, I have been trying out some old and new products to help style my un-ruly barnet and waiting for the waved/messy/voluminous/shoulder skimming tresses to have that look that I can never seem to get myself. The not quite curled but not straight, voluminous but not frizzy, textured but not mane-like kind of style. Not too much to ask for right?

It's been about 6 weeks since I went for the chop and I have found myself repeatedly reaching for many products that will help towards my lopped off locks.

Let's wash that hair
First up is Shampoo and conditioner and I have been loving the L'Oreal EverRiche range. I use both the shampoo and conditioner as I find my hair really soaks up the nourishment it gets from these products and I have noticed a huge difference in how my hair looks and feels. For a hair treatment I have 2 that I use on a weekly basis. Sticking with L'Oreal EverRiche is this Perfect Elixir Masque Spray, I don't use this as an separate treatment on my hair but I have been applying this whilst my conditioner is still soaking in to give it an extra nourishment boost. I only do this once a week as any more and my hair tends to get a bit greasy. The separate mask I use is the Tresemme Keratin Smooth Deep Treatment Mask, I use this once a week/every two weeks instead of conditioner and although I don't notice dramatic results, my hair feels stronger when I brush through my hair. As I have been so amazed with the EverRiche range, I will be sure to pick up the deep treatment mask to see if that lives up to the L'Oreal standards as my hair is still in desperate need of moisture, and L'Oreal products have been really impressing me so far.

After washing:
Once I have patted my hair with a towel to get some of the excess water out (never use a towel and rub your hair between your hands - it causes a lot of damage, believe me) I then apply my Aussie Miracle Colour Insurance Leave in Conditioner, I love the smell of Aussie products and like to use the 3 minute miracle sometimes instead of the L'Oreal conditioner. But this really helps to make it smoother and less rough to comb through my hair. Once all knots are out I then go in with the Tresemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Shine Spray. This is the only heat spray that I consistently repurchase as I find it just does amazing things for my hair. When hair is fully combed through I apply 2 pumps of the L'Oreal Mythic Oil through the ends of my hair and then go in with a rough blow dry - I always wash my hair at night so I use the hair dryer to get rid of some of the water still remaining in my hair and then leave to dry naturally.

Onto styling:
First up for styling is the Tresemme Instant Refresh Dry Shampoo has been a must have in my hair care routine, this is one of the best dry shampoos I have tried from the drugstore. It adds volume and helps to rid roots of greasiness and is brilliant for a refresher through the day, or after a day work and a quick stop home before off out. I am currently growing out my fringe and I find this really helps with or without bangs to add a little extra oomph when your locks are just not behaving - we all have those days.
To add some texture I have 3 products that I rotate between. First is another one from L'Oreal, Studio Line TXT Volume Supersizing Spray. It gives a matte texture and I like to use this when I am going for a curly, messy do, or just to add some extra volume to my roots. V05 Give Me Texture Dry Texturising Spray is another favourite. I tend to use this on more relaxed, chill out days. It adds texture whilst not being too dramatic which some days I am all about the casual look. Finally for texture is the Bumble & Bumble Bb Thickening Creme Contour, I use this pretty much everyday when getting ready for work and it does exactly what it says. A good all rounder for the mane that is my hair. It adds texture where needed and when I am sporting a curly do, this is brilliant for separating the curls and giving a more beachy, wavy style.

That's it for the products I use in my hair. Keep an eye out for the hair tools post coming up tomorrow.
